Too Afraid


“Too afraid” is a book of footnotes. While many might ignore footnotes in a book, I have always found the most amazing resources and a valuable reading list for my future in the footnotes. Footnotes remind me of all those who have something to say but are never at the center of attention, of all the marginalized, racialized souls that are pushed away, of all the important voices that are hidden under a pile of popularity and normality.

In “August 2023”, there are 31 pages, each for a day in the month, but they all contain the same words: “Being creative is hard. I just want to do a simple task every single day.” Which refers to my passion for ordinary and repetitive activities.

I have always found the weight of creating and coming up with an original idea so frustrating and exhausting.
​There is a significant interconnectedness between creativity and boredom, or at least that’s how I’ve experienced it.
