Misnomers, Ink, paper, 230 used capsule blisters, (2022-23, Courtesy of the artist) |
This piece is meant to commemorate the unknown heroes of Iran’s revolution while utilizing my personal story of struggling with mental health. These freehand imaginary portraits are each smaller than an inch. Each drawing is seated under a blister, being protected from the outside world. The pattern represented is derived from Persian handmade rugs called “Glim” which is considered to be a traditional treasure. By breaking the pattern – and symbolically breaking the illogical conventions and traditions- and replacing the motifs with these portraits, I have introduced these nameless figures as our treasures. |
