Reoccurrence (2024)

"University of Regina Summer Artist Residency Program" ‏
In my artistic practice, repetition and text are crucial elements, reflecting both my creativity and mental well-being. This piece is part of my ongoing exploration of unconventional monuments, dedicated to celebrating the essence of the mundane and the automatic rhythms of daily life.

Unlike traditional monuments that focus on subjects or objects, this installation centres on a concept. Comprising 111 meticulously handcrafted ceramic plaques, each engraved with the word "دوباره‌ها"—a term that translates loosely to “recurring acts” or “something that happens over and over”—this work honours the repetitious and often overlooked moments that shape our identities.

This piece serves as a monument to the everyday acts we frequently disregard, urging us to embrace the familiarity of the known. In a world filled with surprises and unpredictable events, "دوباره‌ها" stands as a celebration of certainty. Here, I take control of the narrative; each plaque is a promise that these moments will indeed recur.

Reoccurrence, 111 embossed ceramic plaques, Terracotta, Underglaze Wash, Approximate size of each plaque: 2"x3" (2024, Courtesy of the artist)

ای لهیب غم! آتشم مزن
خرمنم مسوز، از شراره‌ها
دور بسته را، فصل خسته را
دوره می‌کنم با دوباره‌ها
