From the exhibition “An underlying perplexity”
Tasian is simultaneously a memorial and a monument for many multiple mementos. There are no equivalents to this word in English or surprisingly Persian. Originated in my motherland Gilan, Tasian can’t be simply put into words. It’s associated with a mixed feeling one might have after a loss. More specifically Tasian is how you might feel on the first night after a loved one is gone (travelled, left, or deceased). Tasian is a monument for the absurd moments and memories I can’t have anymore. Cherishing and commemorating those moments, I have covered 50 wooden plaques with concrete and then inscribed on the surface while it was still wet. When set, concrete is a permanent strong material which implies that those moments are on record for eternity. |
