Wherever the Wind Takes Us, 5 panels of vellum, Collage, drawings, photos, journal scraps, approximately 3 ft. x 6 ft. (Nuit Blanche Saskatoon 2023)
A collaboration with Emily Conlon, Nuit Blanche Saskatoon 2023
Isolation has been a recurrent theme that has filled the pages of our journals. Coming from two entirely different cultures and parts of the world – one artist from Iran and one artist from Ontario – we both moved to Saskatoon and had to navigate an unfamiliar city during the isolation of the pandemic. While our experiences have been vastly different, we have come to find that we share a lot of similarities in our experiences as well. Working through both the differences and similarities, we intend to create an installation that depicts a collaborative journal of Saskatoon.
Layered with both visual and textual information including drawings, written excerpts, mementos, and photos, viewers will be invited to explore Saskatoon through our perspectives. While journals are usually quite private in nature, we seek to use the journal as a means to generate a sense of togetherness in sharing these experiences with each other as well as with the community after these long periods of isolation. This project is composed of five panels made of translucent paper hanging vertically side by side. These panels will be layered with drawings, text, mementos, and photos to generate a sense of togetherness through our collective journal.
